Searchles Begins Ratings Rollout - Input Please!

We need your help and input please! Searchles is in the very early stages of rolling out ratings on the site. This is not going to be like all the infinite other content rating systems on the internet – eventually – and very carefully – we will tie it into our search algorithms across the platform in a way that takes advantage of the network of peers you trust. But – we need your help to pull this off correctly.

First step: we need you to start using the ratings feature which allows you to rate the quality of posted content that you’re looking at on a scale of 1-5. Located on the lower right of each post, when you scroll over the ratings, you’ll also see a graph that tells you what others think. You can also click through to see which users rated your posts.

Second step: With enough ratings data, our team can then fine tune the algorithms so that when we roll out upcoming features that enable you to view highest rated (or most controversial) content from the home page or within your groups, it will actually make some sense. We can also then start looking at integrating ratings into search filtering.

Is Searchles trying to morph into a digg or reddit? NO. We admire what both sites have done to generate a lively community with voting but we’re trying to do something far more dynamic beyond the one hit wonder effect to keep you connected to the people and content you trust.

Once we get going with full featured ratings, we may even run a few contests so stay tuned! In the meantime, please take the ratings for a test drive and let us know how we can make ratings work for you. All comments welcome.
